    • Kinesiology is the study of the dynamics of human movement and its components (anatomical, physiological, neurological, biochemical, biomechanical, neuromotor, psychological) in interaction with the environment.

    • In simpler terms, kinesiology is also defined as human kinetics, or the scientific study of human movement. The term comes from the Greek word kinesis, which means "to move".

    • As university-educated health professionals, kinesiologists apply exercise and movement science to promote health and well-being; prevent, manage, and rehabilitate injuries; treat illness and chronic disease; restore function; and optimize human performance in the workplace, clinical settings, sport, and fitness. Kinesiologists use science and research to offer movement as medicine, to any person with a health or fitness goal who wants a hands-on, personalized approach.

    • Physical activity is a movement performed by skeletal muscles that requires energy. In other words, any movement we do is physical activity. Exercise, however, is planned, structured, repetitive, and intentional movement designed to improve or maintain physical fitness. Exercise is a subcategory of physical activity. Research provides significant evidence that all physical activity contributes positively to health and well-being.

    • Kinesiologists work with people of all ages and physical abilities, in many settings, to help them achieve their health and wellness goals. Kinesiologists improve quality of life, often using interventions that include physical activity.

  • Note: it is recommended that upon arrival, clients wear athletic clothing and comfortable athletic footwear.

    Initial Assessment and Consultation:

At your first visit, you will meet with our kinesiologist, who will gather relevant medical and personal details to formulate a personalized treatment plan and program.

Physical assessments such as functional movement assessments may be conducted to determine baseline fitness level. Assessments also may be carried out during later sessions to track progress and compare results.

Sessions are likely to be carried out at Creekside Health and any subsequent sessions may take place in an alternate external gym setting.

    Single session:

You will meet with our kinesiologist, who will go over exercises and a potential routine which can be carried out independently, or during additional sessions, to improve your physical functioning and/or performance depending on circumstances.

A variety of both strength and conditioning equipment may be used during sessions. Single sessions may take place directly at Creekside Health or in an alternate external gym setting.

  • Kinesiologists utilize an evidence-based treatment model known as active rehabilitation, which uses progressive therapeutic exercise and range of motion techniques to help overcome injuries.

Active rehab is most commonly used for injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), sports, at work, or during regular daily activities. It’s a safe, highly-effective treatment model backed by a large body of research.
